Weeks 1–6
Sep 21, 2026–Nov 1, 2026
Set the routine, grow easy volume gradually, and finish each week with enough control to repeat it.
Tallahassee, FLFebruary 7, 2027
Start around September 20, 2026. The calendar below gives each phase a real date, then the course guidance shows where to make the build specific to Tallahassee Marathon.
The Tallahassee Marathon started in 1975 with two runners, is still put on by the Gulf Winds Track Club, and does not run like the Florida people picture. The course covers about 662 feet of climbing through neighborhoods of big oaks and hanging moss and across both the Florida State and Florida A&M campuses, topping out near 228 feet.
Use the longer window to make the early build calmer, not to add five months of hard training. The plan should begin close to your current load, hold most running easy, and delay the biggest race-specific work until the middle of the cycle.
These dates define the job of each phase. Your current mileage, recent longest run, experience, goal, and available days still decide the actual workouts inside them.
Weeks 1–6
Sep 21, 2026–Nov 1, 2026
Set the routine, grow easy volume gradually, and finish each week with enough control to repeat it.
Weeks 7–13
Nov 2, 2026–Dec 20, 2026
Extend the long run, introduce race-specific terrain, and keep recovery weeks on the calendar.
Weeks 14–17
Dec 21, 2026–Jan 17, 2027
Complete the most demanding race rehearsals and settle fueling, pacing, shoes, and clothing before taper begins.
Weeks 18–20
Jan 18, 2027–Feb 7, 2027
Reduce the load, keep familiar running in the week, and let the work from the previous four months show up on race day.
Build general durability first. Add the race's hills, flat sustained running, downhill exposure, heat, or humidity in layers after the weekly rhythm is stable, then make the final long runs the most course-specific.
Read the full race guideTrain for Tallahassee on rolling terrain and in humid air, which is an unusual pairing to prepare for in February. About 662 feet of climbing arrives in continuous small rollers, and race morning humidity has run near 88 percent. A winter block on flat, cold, dry roads prepares you for neither one of those.
For the terrain: run your long efforts on continuously undulating routes and pace by effort rather than by split. The rollers here never demand a gear change, which is precisely why runners hold pace over them and quietly spend more than they planned. Learn what steady breathing feels like while your mile splits swing 15 seconds in both directions.
For the air: this is the harder problem if you train somewhere with a real winter. You cannot manufacture 88 percent humidity in January in Ohio, but you can approximate the effect. Overdress for a few long runs, put some efforts indoors at a warm setting, and above all open conservatively, because humid air makes a given pace cost more from the first mile.
Then plan for the temperature climb. A 46F start against a 66F average high means the last hour is a different race from the first. Practice taking fluid on a schedule rather than waiting until you feel like you need it, because on this course the moment you feel like you need it is already late.
Current mileage, recent longest run, marathon experience, goal, and available days determine which plans rank first. After you choose and subscribe, Stride dates every workout through February 7, 2027.
The 2027 Tallahassee Marathon is scheduled for February 7, 2027, so the 20-week window opens around September 20, 2026. Treat that as the outside edge of the window, then line week one up with the plan's normal weekly rhythm.
Use the longer window to make the early build calmer, not to add five months of hard training. The plan should begin close to your current load, hold most running easy, and delay the biggest race-specific work until the middle of the cycle. The course does not change the opening load you can handle, so choose from your current mileage and recent longest run before adding race-specific terrain.

Do not double weeks or cram missed mileage into the remaining calendar. Use your current mileage, recent longest run, experience, goal, and available days to choose a plan that can enter at an appropriate point while preserving the taper.
North Florida is not flat, and the Tallahassee Marathon proves it. The course covers about 662 feet of climbing between roughly 32 and 228 feet, rolling continuously through neighborhoods of live oaks and across two university campuses. Nothing is steep enough to walk, which is why the cost accumulates on runners who trained on flat ground.
Cool at the start and warm at the finish. Race mornings have begun near 46F with 88 percent humidity under overcast skies, while early February in Tallahassee averages a 66F high and a 41F low. Anyone running longer than about four hours should expect the last hour to be considerably warmer than the first.
Each page counts back from race day, maps the 4 phases to real dates, and applies the window to that course and its typical conditions.
