Weeks 1–4
Sep 21, 2026–Oct 18, 2026
Establish repeatable weeks, keep most running easy, and begin extending the long run without forcing the pace.
Orlando, FLJanuary 10, 2027
Start around September 20, 2026. The calendar below gives each phase a real date, then the course guidance shows where to make the build specific to Walt Disney World Marathon.
The Walt Disney World Marathon finished 13,291 runners in 2026, and 0.8% of them ran a Boston qualifying time. Those two numbers together tell you what kind of race this is: a very large field on very flat ground, where hardly anybody is chasing a number. Almost nobody who enters minds.
Use this window when you have a running base and want several weeks before the hardest marathon-specific work begins. The extra month over a 12-week plan creates more room for gradual long-run growth and recovery.
These dates define the job of each phase. Your current mileage, recent longest run, experience, goal, and available days still decide the actual workouts inside them.
Weeks 1–4
Sep 21, 2026–Oct 18, 2026
Establish repeatable weeks, keep most running easy, and begin extending the long run without forcing the pace.
Weeks 5–10
Oct 19, 2026–Nov 29, 2026
Increase the weekly load, preserve step-back weeks, and introduce the terrain and effort the race will require.
Weeks 11–13
Nov 30, 2026–Dec 20, 2026
Complete the biggest race-specific weeks and use long runs to lock in fueling, pacing, and equipment.
Weeks 14–16
Dec 21, 2026–Jan 10, 2027
Bring volume down while keeping the weekly rhythm familiar. Training is finished before race week begins.
Use the first month to establish consistency, then make long runs progressively more specific to the race's terrain and conditions. The course rehearsal should grow with the plan, not appear all at once in peak week.
Read the full race guideTrain for the Walt Disney World Marathon for humidity and for flat, unvarying ground. The course has roughly 260 feet of climbing in 26.2 miles, so terrain will not be your limiter. A humid Florida morning and a field of more than 13,000 runners will be, and both of those can be trained for if you plan around them.
Put your long runs in the warmest, most humid conditions your calendar offers, and practice drinking on the move rather than walking through aid stations. Race morning in Orlando averages 87% humidity at the start, and humidity is what turns a comfortable effort into a hot one well before the thermometer looks alarming.
Then train the flatness directly. Find a long stretch of level pavement and run two or three long efforts on it with no hills at all, so you learn where your stride starts to break down without terrain to reset it. Then load your calves and hips in the gym twice a week, because on ground this level the same tissue takes the same load for the entire race with nothing to share it.
Finally, rehearse crowded running. Do a couple of workouts where you deliberately hold back for the first twenty minutes and then settle into goal effort. That is the exact pattern this race will impose on you, and it works much better as a plan than as a surprise.
Current mileage, recent longest run, marathon experience, goal, and available days determine which plans rank first. After you choose and subscribe, Stride dates every workout through January 10, 2027.
The 2027 Walt Disney World Marathon is scheduled for January 10, 2027, so the 16-week window opens around September 20, 2026. Treat that as the outside edge of the window, then line week one up with the plan's normal weekly rhythm.
Use this window when you have a running base and want several weeks before the hardest marathon-specific work begins. The extra month over a 12-week plan creates more room for gradual long-run growth and recovery. The course does not change the opening load you can handle, so choose from your current mileage and recent longest run before adding race-specific terrain.

Do not double weeks or cram missed mileage into the remaining calendar. Use your current mileage, recent longest run, experience, goal, and available days to choose a plan that can enter at an appropriate point while preserving the taper.
Yes, about as flat as marathons get. The course runs between roughly 90 and 120 feet of elevation and totals around 260 feet of climbing across 26.2 miles. Terrain will not slow you down. Humidity averaging 87% at the start and a field of more than 13,000 runners will.
No. Only 0.8% of finishers ran a Boston qualifying time in 2026, the same as in 2025, and the rate has stayed at or below 1.2% in recent years. The course is flat enough to be fast, so the low rate reflects the humid conditions and the fact that most entrants are running it for the experience.
Each page counts back from race day, maps the 4 phases to real dates, and applies the window to that course and its typical conditions.
