12-Week Mobile Marathon Training Plan

Mobile, ALJanuary 10, 2027

Start around October 18, 2026. The calendar below gives each phase a real date, then the course guidance shows where to make the build specific to Mobile Marathon.

The Mobile Marathon finished 114 people in 2026, and 16.7% of them ran a Boston qualifying time. In 2025 the rate was 18.3%. A field that small producing a qualifying share that high tells you two things at once: the course is genuinely fast, and the people who show up are mostly runners who came to race.

Does this window fit your starting point?

Use this window when your recent training is steady and the opening week will not be a mileage jump. If you are returning after a long break, twelve weeks is too little room to rebuild and peak at the same time.

  • Your weekly mileage has been consistent for the last six to eight weeks.
  • You have completed recent long runs and do not need to rebuild from three easy miles.
  • You can protect the same number of run days from week one through race week.
  • You are prepared to begin race-specific work early instead of using a long base phase.

The 12-week Mobile Marathon calendar

These dates define the job of each phase. Your current mileage, recent longest run, experience, goal, and available days still decide the actual workouts inside them.

Settle

Weeks 1–2

Oct 19, 2026–Nov 1, 2026

Hold close to your current volume, establish the weekly rhythm, and make sure the opening load is honest.

Build

Weeks 3–7

Nov 2, 2026–Dec 6, 2026

Grow the long run and weekly work with step-back weeks intact. There is no room to repay missed mileage.

Peak

Weeks 8–10

Dec 7, 2026–Dec 27, 2026

Complete the most race-specific long runs, rehearse fueling, and practice the terrain that will decide the final 10K.

Taper

Weeks 11–12

Dec 28, 2026–Jan 10, 2027

Reduce volume, keep the routine familiar, and arrive on race day without trying to squeeze in one more big week.

Make the window specific to Mobile Marathon.

Course-specific work starts early in a 12-week build. Put the race's terrain and expected conditions into long runs once the opening weeks feel controlled, without adding extra hard days.

How to train for the Mobile Marathon

Train for the Mobile Marathon by getting very good at holding one pace on flat ground. With 25 feet of elevation range across the whole course, nothing will change your stride for you, and the same muscle fibers carry the same load from the gun to the line. That single skill is what this race tests.

The workout that matters is a long run with a large unbroken goal pace block at the end. Build toward 10 to 14 miles at target pace inside a longer run, on the flattest route you have. Runners who train on hills often arrive at flat races surprised by the cost of the monotony, because they'd been getting small involuntary breaks all along without noticing.

Add lower body strength work through the build, since you'll get no relief from grade change. Then rehearse the double loop honestly: you pass Mardi Gras Park at halfway with the finish line right there and 13.1 miles still to run. Decide well in advance what you're going to think at that moment, because deciding in the moment goes badly.

Finally, plan to run alone. With around 100 finishers there's no pack to sit in and nobody to pull you through mile 22.

Build My Plan

12-week Mobile Marathon plan questions, answered.

When should I start a 12-week Mobile Marathon plan?

The 2027 Mobile Marathon is scheduled for January 10, 2027, so the 12-week window opens around October 18, 2026. Treat that as the outside edge of the window, then line week one up with the plan's normal weekly rhythm.

Is a 12-week plan long enough for the Mobile Marathon?

Use this window when your recent training is steady and the opening week will not be a mileage jump. If you are returning after a long break, twelve weeks is too little room to rebuild and peak at the same time. The course does not change the opening load you can handle, so choose from your current mileage and recent longest run before adding race-specific terrain.

How should I prepare for the Mobile Marathon course in 12 weeks?

Course-specific work starts early in a 12-week build. Put the race's terrain and expected conditions into long runs once the opening weeks feel controlled, without adding extra hard days. Train for the Mobile Marathon by getting very good at holding one pace on flat ground. With 25 feet of elevation range across the whole course, nothing will change your stride for you, and the same muscle fibers carry the same load from the gun to the line. That single skill is what this race tests.

What if the 12-week Mobile Marathon window has already started?

Do not double weeks or cram missed mileage into the remaining calendar. Use your current mileage, recent longest run, experience, goal, and available days to choose a plan that can enter at an appropriate point while preserving the taper.

Is the Mobile Marathon flat?

Extremely. The Mobile Marathon runs between 8 and 33 feet above sea level with about 199 feet of total climb over 26.2 miles, close to the flattest a road marathon gets. It's a double loop of the half marathon course through downtown Mobile, starting and finishing at Mardi Gras Park.

Is the Mobile Marathon a good Boston qualifier?

On the numbers, yes. About 16.7% of Mobile Marathon finishers ran a Boston qualifying time in 2026, 18.3% did in 2025 and 18% in 2024. The flat profile and cool January mornings help. Bear in mind that a field of roughly 100 runners skews heavily toward people already racing near qualifying pace.
