Weeks 1–6
Dec 14, 2026–Jan 24, 2027
Set the routine, grow easy volume gradually, and finish each week with enough control to repeat it.
Providence, RIMay 2, 2027
Start around December 13, 2026. The calendar below gives each phase a real date, then the course guidance shows where to make the build specific to Providence Marathon.
The Providence marathon does not start in Providence. It goes off at 7:30 a.m. from Bold Point Park on the East Providence waterfront, and the organizers route it through four Rhode Island communities, past historic neighborhoods, treelined streets, working waterfronts and stretches of open coast.
Use the longer window to make the early build calmer, not to add five months of hard training. The plan should begin close to your current load, hold most running easy, and delay the biggest race-specific work until the middle of the cycle.
These dates define the job of each phase. Your current mileage, recent longest run, experience, goal, and available days still decide the actual workouts inside them.

Weeks 7–13
Jan 25, 2027–Mar 14, 2027
Extend the long run, introduce race-specific terrain, and keep recovery weeks on the calendar.
Weeks 14–17
Mar 15, 2027–Apr 11, 2027
Complete the most demanding race rehearsals and settle fueling, pacing, shoes, and clothing before taper begins.
Weeks 18–20
Apr 12, 2027–May 2, 2027
Reduce the load, keep familiar running in the week, and let the work from the previous four months show up on race day.
Build general durability first. Add the race's hills, flat sustained running, downhill exposure, heat, or humidity in layers after the weekly rhythm is stable, then make the final long runs the most course-specific.
Read the full race guideTraining for the Providence marathon is mostly a winter problem. A May 2 race means your peak long runs happen in March, your base is built in January, and the whole thing depends on whether you can keep running through ice, dark evenings and a coastal New England February. Build the plan around that reality instead of pretending it away.
Two practical things. First, decide your bad-weather rule in December rather than at 6 a.m. on a sleeting Saturday: what moves indoors, what gets shortened, what gets swapped. Second, since a good part of this course sits near the water, take some long runs somewhere genuinely open and windy rather than sheltered, and practice holding effort into a headwind. Stride matches you to one of 14 marathon plans built on the most proven training methodologies in the sport, maps every week from today to race day, and rebuilds the schedule when a week gets cancelled by weather or work rather than leaving you to guess.
Current mileage, recent longest run, marathon experience, goal, and available days determine which plans rank first. After you choose and subscribe, Stride dates every workout through May 2, 2027.
The 2027 Providence Marathon is scheduled for May 2, 2027, so the 20-week window opens around December 13, 2026. Treat that as the outside edge of the window, then line week one up with the plan's normal weekly rhythm.
Use the longer window to make the early build calmer, not to add five months of hard training. The plan should begin close to your current load, hold most running easy, and delay the biggest race-specific work until the middle of the cycle. The course does not change the opening load you can handle, so choose from your current mileage and recent longest run before adding race-specific terrain.

Do not double weeks or cram missed mileage into the remaining calendar. Use your current mileage, recent longest run, experience, goal, and available days to choose a plan that can enter at an appropriate point while preserving the taper.
At Bold Point Park on the East Providence waterfront, not in downtown Providence, with the marathon going off at 7:30 a.m. The half marathon follows at 8 a.m. and the 5K at 8:15. Plan your race-morning parking and drop-off around East Providence rather than the city center.
Yes. The organizers state the course is USATF certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier, so a time run here is valid for registration. They do not publish what share of finishers qualify, and no independent record was available to us, so treat the difficulty of qualifying here as an open question.
Each page counts back from race day, maps the 4 phases to real dates, and applies the window to that course and its typical conditions.
