Weeks 1–6
Jan 31, 2027–Mar 13, 2027
Set the routine, grow easy volume gradually, and finish each week with enough control to repeat it.
Duluth, MNJune 19, 2027
Start around January 30, 2027. The calendar below gives each phase a real date, then the course guidance shows where to make the build specific to Grandma's Marathon.
Grandma’s is the June classic: a point-to-point run down the old highway along Lake Superior’s shore from Two Harbors into Duluth, with cool lake air, a gently helpful profile, and a finish-line party in Canal Park that takes over the whole town.
Use the longer window to make the early build calmer, not to add five months of hard training. The plan should begin close to your current load, hold most running easy, and delay the biggest race-specific work until the middle of the cycle.
These dates define the job of each phase. Your current mileage, recent longest run, experience, goal, and available days still decide the actual workouts inside them.

Set the routine, grow easy volume gradually, and finish each week with enough control to repeat it.
Weeks 7–13
Mar 14, 2027–May 1, 2027
Extend the long run, introduce race-specific terrain, and keep recovery weeks on the calendar.
Weeks 14–17
May 2, 2027–May 29, 2027
Complete the most demanding race rehearsals and settle fueling, pacing, shoes, and clothing before taper begins.
Weeks 18–20
May 30, 2027–Jun 19, 2027
Reduce the load, keep familiar running in the week, and let the work from the previous four months show up on race day.
Build general durability first. Add the race's hills, flat sustained running, downhill exposure, heat, or humidity in layers after the weekly rhythm is stable, then make the final long runs the most course-specific.
Read the full race guideA June race means a spring buildup, and for Midwesterners that's training through the tail of winter into perfect April and May weather. The gamble is race day itself: lake-cooled and ideal most years, warm occasionally. Do some of your late long runs at the warm end of the day so a sunny year doesn't catch you unprepared.
The course rewards rhythm with a twist: mostly steady rolling grades, then one real climb at mile 22. Finish long runs with a hill and then a fast mile, the exact Lemon-Drop-then-downtown sequence, and race day's ending will feel rehearsed.
Current mileage, recent longest run, marathon experience, goal, and available days determine which plans rank first. After you choose and subscribe, Stride dates every workout through June 19, 2027.
The 2027 Grandma's Marathon is scheduled for June 19, 2027, so the 20-week window opens around January 30, 2027. Treat that as the outside edge of the window, then line week one up with the plan's normal weekly rhythm.
Use the longer window to make the early build calmer, not to add five months of hard training. The plan should begin close to your current load, hold most running easy, and delay the biggest race-specific work until the middle of the cycle. The course does not change the opening load you can handle, so choose from your current mileage and recent longest run before adding race-specific terrain.

Do not double weeks or cram missed mileage into the remaining calendar. Use your current mileage, recent longest run, experience, goal, and available days to choose a plan that can enter at an appropriate point while preserving the taper.
Most Stride marathon plans run 12 to 20 weeks, putting a Grandma's buildup in the late winter and spring. Get matched in the app and Stride maps every week from today to Canal Park.
Yes: gently rolling with a slight net downhill, point-to-point along the lake, and June mornings that the lake usually keeps cool. It has a strong PR and BQ reputation, especially for runners who save something for after Lemon Drop Hill.
Each page counts back from race day, maps the 4 phases to real dates, and applies the window to that course and its typical conditions.
